Youth Apprenticeship program

Real world engineering. Real work experience. Oshkosh’s engineering youth apprentices will explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers in a fast-paced 450-hour program for incoming high school seniors. Our students are intrigued by problem solving and fascinated with how to embrace innovation and technology. Through their experience they will understand the connection between what they’re learning in the classroom and what goes on at a Fortune 500 company while getting paid for the work they do.

About our program

The work-based program ensures that our engineer apprentices gain a well-rounded engineering experience that exposes them to a variety of disciplines. Apprentices will fill their days with value-added team projects, shadow Oshkosh engineers, attend field trips and listen to guest speakers to enhance their experience.

What you'll learn

Students are exposed to a variety of engineering disciplines during their experience including drafting, design, materials, mechanical, electrical and software engineering.

Earn school credit

Through hands-on projects over the course of the year, students will earn high school credit, in-state college credit, a Youth Apprenticeship Certificate from the State of Wisconsin and will increase their readiness for a university education.

School to Work program

Are you eager to learn and earn at the same time? Jump into the world of innovation with one of Oshkosh Corporation’s School to Work programs. These exciting and fun programs offer independent, driven high schoolers the opportunity to learn about manufacturing through hands-on work experience—and earn a paycheck along the way.

Earn your Diploma while Earning Money

Oshkosh Corporation offers a paid two-year experience for incoming high school juniors interested in developing technical and employability skills, allowing you to jumpstart your career in manufacturing while earning a high school diploma.

A day in the life of an Oshkosh student

Our students in Oshkosh will attend class locally for part of the day. The rest of their day consists of on-the-job training with the guidance of an Oshkosh mentor. Students at some of our other facilities will spend part of the day at their regular high school and then attend hands-on training with mentors at those locations.

Go to work while staying involved

We understand our high school apprentices are still students. If they are interested in participating in sports, clubs and other afterschool activities, they have the flexibility to still include that aspect of their high school experience while working with our team.

Continued education

Our goal is to continue to help students develop skills through our programs. While students are on summer break, they will work in our manufacturing facilities between their junior and senior years. This valuable work experience helps students advance their skills between school years. During this time, our School to Work students in Oshkosh work in our manufacturing facilities too, which prepares them for their senior year where they will begin working towards their Welding Certificate at Fox Valley Technical College, become a Certified Production Technician (CPT) through the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) and earn a Youth Apprenticeship Certificate from the State of Wisconsin.
